Surface passivation of magnetite by reaction with aqueous Cr(VI): XAFS and TEM results

XAFS and TEM analyses show that the magnetite surface passivates at neutral pH by conversion to maghemite, limiting its potential use for aqueous Cr(VI) reduction.
