Surveyors, cartographers, photogrammetrists; identification friends or foes
Largely because of historical developments, the disciplines of geodesy, surveying, photogrammetry, cartography and remote sensing which make up the profession of cartographic science are organised into numerous societies at both the national and international levels. Partly as a consequence of this separatism, an effective education system for the profession is not well developed. There are hopeful signs, both nationally and internationally, that the various societies may get together to present a united professional front to the world scientific community.
