Total sediment load measured in turbulence flume

January 1, 1955

The results of significant model tests in a glass-walled flume and prototype tests of a turbulence flume are presented. The velocity of flow and the transportation of the total sediment load in suspension were observed under varying conditions of flow. Also noted was the resistance to flow caused by vertical baffles, which were fastened to the floor of the flume. The prototype tests consisted of observations at the measuring sill of velocity and sediment concentration for all flows. For normal flows observations were made upstream and downstream from the flume. Samples of total sediment load and bed material were analyzed for particle size. Minor studies of dune movement in model and prototype were also included.
