ScienceBase Data Release Training Special Topic: Intro to Globus Transfer for Data Release

Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 12:00pm ET / 10:00am MT

Presented by Tamar Norkin & Madison Langseth, Science Data Management

The ScienceBase Data Release Team offers ScienceBase Data Release training events quarterly. The ScienceBase system is currently being modernized, and the updated system will use Globus Transfer to help users move data into and out of the repository. In light of these changes, we decided to focus this quarter’s training on Globus Transfer and how to use it within the USGS, with examples that focus on data release use cases. This special training on Globus Transfer for Data Release will also be held again on September 14th with the CDI Data Management Working Group. A separate training for Data Release Metadata 101 will take place on August 27, 2026.

Please email the ScienceBase Data Release Team (sciencebase_datarelease@usgs.gov) to receive the calendar invitation for either training.

ScienceBase Data Release Metadata 101 Training

Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 12:00pm ET / 10:00am MT

Presented by Amanda Liford, Science Data Management

Is this your first foray into metadata creation and don't know where to start? Do you want to refresh yourself on USGS metadata requirements and recommendations before your next data release?

The USGS Science Analytics and Synthesis' ScienceBase Data Release Team will be hosting a virtual training event that will provide an overview of the who, what, where, when, and how of metadata creation. We will also showcase a walkthrough of an application for creating, editing, and validating metadata, the Metadata Wizard.

Please email the ScienceBase Data Release Team (sciencebase_datarelease@usgs.gov) to receive the calendar invitation for either training.
