Hydrologic Summary for the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribal Jurisdictional Area
The objectives of this proposed project are to compile and evaluate existing data and reports from the USGS, other government agencies, and tribes to summarize the types of data that have been collected in the area and identify gaps in those data. Such analysis will provide a comprehensive background document of geographic, hydrologic, and environmental features of the area and will identify data needed by the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes to produce a comprehensive tribal water-management plan.
The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma need a comprehensive synopsis of previous hydrologic reports and related data to facilitate development of a water-management plan for their tribal jurisdictional area in central and western Oklahoma. The synopsis would include information from previous studies of land use, surface-water and groundwater characteristics and availability, climatological characterizations, and water use. The synopsis also would identify gaps in existing data and identify new data needed to assist in the development of a water-management plan. Summarization of the existing data and identification of data gaps is the first step in developing a comprehensive water-management plan that can be used by the Tribes to manage their water resources. The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes want a water-management plan to sustain economic growth and preserve cultural integrity, and for possible determination of tribal water rights at some time in the future.
