DReAMER: Depth Retrieval Algorithms for Mapping and Exploration of Rivers
Description
The software application made available through this repository is designed for mapping water depth in river channels from passive optical remotely sensed data. The program provides convenient access to a number of different methods for deriving bathymetric information from images and visualizing the results and is thus referred to as Depth Retrieval Algorithms for Mapping and Exploration of Rivers, or DReAMER for short. Bathymetric mapping techniques available within DReAMER include:
Optimal Band Ratio Analysis (OBRA)
Hyperspectral Imaging of River Bathymetry using an Ensemble of Regression Trees (HIRBERT)
Flow Resistance Equation-Based Imaging of River Depths (FReEBIRD)
Image-to-Depth Quantile Transformation (IDQT)
A brief overview of these algorithms is provided in the tutorial document that illustrates how to use the software and further detail on each method can be found in the original publications listed below. By packaging all these techniques within a common, convenient interface, DReAMER gives end users a number of options for mapping water depth. The choice of which algorithm to apply depends on the type of image and the amount of field data available.
