The programs implementing the funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law at the USGS are the Mineral Resources Program, within the Energy and Mineral Resources Mission Area, and the National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program, within the Core Science Systems Mission Area.
Mineral Resources Program
Provides scientific information for objective resource assessments and unbiased research results on mineral potential, production, consumption, and environmental effects. The MRP is the sole Federal source for this information.
National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program
The National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) to preserves and exposes the Nation’s geoscience collections (samples, logs, maps, data) to promote their discovery and use for research and resource development. The National Digital Catalog describes geoscience collections managed by USGS and state geological agencies.
