Darrin Thome

Darrin Thome is the Acting Regional Director for the Southwest Region (DOI Regions 8 and 10) at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). He provides leadership for USGS activities across Arizona, California, and Nevada.

The Southwest Region includes ten science centers conducting work for all five USGS mission areas, about 1300 employees, and an overall annual budget of around \$280 million. The Region brings multidisciplinary USGS science to address cross-cutting challenges across the southwest, including California’s Bay Delta and the Colorado River.

As Associate Regional Director, Darrin assists the Regional Director on issues of operational and science import throughout the Region. Darrin also serves as the liaison for the Ecosystem and Water Science Centers throughout the Southwest Region. He connects with Federal, State and local partners to ensure that scientists and staff are developing actionable science needed to manage lands, inform regulatory managers, and improve the knowledgebase associated with natural resource decisions.
