Greg Cocks

Greg Cocks is a Sr Applied Researcher at the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC).

My current role as a Senior Applied Researcher at the USGS - focused on 3D Hydrography Program (3DHP) - entails being part of developing modern spatial solutions for national hydrography; that is, my expertise lies in helping harness the power of GIS and spatial data in delivering accurate, high-resolution, 3D-enabled hydrologic data across the US.

The core of my work involves translating complex geospatial data into actionable insights, a powerful factor in the advancement of the USGS mission. Using a dedicated team, 3DHP is setting new benchmarks for surface water data in the USA, helping to shape a better future of environmental analysis, management & many other use cases.

My proven ability to readily and quickly pick up a variety of technical / applied scientific use cases is shown in many years of successful cross-disciplinary experiences and results. Previous 'professional lives' included being an engineering geologist (still licensed) in a variety of settings, environmental science, nuclear site cleanup related, some oil & gas, and more.
