Hayley S. Woodward
Hayley started at USGS at the Klamath Falls Field Station in August of 2023 after graduating from the Oregon Institute of Technology majoring in Environmental Sciences with a minor in sustainability. She has worked on multiple projects including juvenile sampling, adult sampling, fish aging, and remote site monitoring and maintenance.
Hayley’s responsibilities include:
- Leading sampling efforts with mini fyke nets for juvenile sampling in the summer in Upper Klamath Lake, Lake Ewauna, Clear Lake, and Hagelstein Pond.
- Leading sampling efforts with trammel nets during adult sampling in Upper Klamath Lake and Clear Lake
- Working with small crews to ID, tag, measure, and take required samples from fish caught during sampling
- Collect finray samples in the field to age fish
- Manage finray processing in the office to set each sample in resin, cut cross sections, and view under a microscope to collect age data for the fish.
- Install and maintain remote arrays for continuous fish movement data in surrounding rivers and lakes
- Scan bird colonies after breeding seasons to recover dropped PIT tags from fish consumed by birds
- Operate motorboats in the field in all seasons and weather for data collection
- Calibrate and maintain EXO3 sondes for water quality monitoring in local ponds used for fish habitat
- Maintain and monitor acoustic receivers for fish movement data
- Assist in training new field crew members
