Jeff Potts, MPH, CBSP

Jeff serves as the Biorisk Management Coordinator in the Office of Science Quality and Integrity (OSQI), where he is a bureau expert on risk mitigation measures for scientific activities involving biohazards.

He supports a Laboratory Advisory Board (LAB!) initiative focused on establishing an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) committee, developing bureau-level policy and guidance, and reviewing bureau proposed science involving recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules and other high-risk biohazards. Prior to joining the USGS, Jeff worked for the National Institutes of Health as the chief of the Biorisk Management Branch, where he oversaw the biosafety, biosecurity, occupational health, and biological compliance for over 2000 laboratories across three campuses.
