Jennifer Sword

Jenn is a Biosafety Staff Scientist in the Office of Science Quality and Integrity. She supports the development and integration of a comprehensive biosafety program across the USGS. Her focus is on understanding the complexities and constraints of the science performed so that meaningful and collaborative biosafety guidance can be generated to reduce risk to people, research, & the environment.

Before joining USGS, Jenn spent 15 years at the NIH’s Integrated Research Facility, studying high-consequence pathogens such as Ebola and Lassa viruses, and later serving as Biosurety Program Manager, overseeing the Personnel Reliability Program and training staff in safe containment practices. Her experience will help strengthen the USGS Biosafety Program, ensuring it is informed and effective.
