The United States Geological Survey's (USGS) National Geospatial Program (NGP) will retire the USGS Imagery Topo Base Map that combines aerial imagery with topographic map features like roads, place names, and contour lines into a single map view. It has been a popular resource for users who want to view topographic details on top of real-world imagery.

The retirement of this web map will enable NGP's ongoing effort to modernize how we deliver geospatial data. As older services are retired, we can focus our resources on building newer, more flexible tools that better meet today's needs.

Understanding that users rely on this service in their own applications, maps, or workflows, we're sharing this notice now, 30 days in advance, so you have time to update your systems and find alternative sources before the service goes offline.

What is changing:
The USGS Imagery Topo Base Map service will not be available after November 16, 2026. Any application, map, or tool that references this service will not display the service data once the service is retired.

What you should do:
If your application or map currently uses the USGS Imagery Topo Base Map, please update it to use a different source before November 16, 2026. The National Map continues to offer a variety of data and map services that may meet your needs.
