A Scalable System for Geospatial Delivery of Hi-Res Data Products From Mobile Monitoring Platforms
Using enterprise mapping capabilities to deliver data products from mobile monitoring platforms to management partners
High-resolution observations collected by mobile monitoring platforms are transforming our ability to support management of natural resources, but their benefits will be limited until they can be easily discovered and visualized by users and the public. Images and mapping products from mobile platforms tend to be spatially extensive and have very high resolutions, resulting in large file sizes and high memory demands for storage and display. USGS has no standard solution for discovery and visualization of such data despite their increasing importance in fields of hazard mapping, water quality, and ecosystem monitoring. This project will demonstrate how Water Mission Area’s next-generation data delivery system can be used to discover and visualize underwater drone data collected in the Great Lakes and the Delaware River estuary and make them available for download by users. The demonstration expands CDI’s efforts to build enterprise data systems that can disseminate analysis-ready data to USGS’s partners.
