Congressional Staff Learn About Lake Michigan Ecological Research Station Work In Support of National Park Service

The GLSC’s Lake Michigan Ecological Research Station (LMERS; Chesterton, Indiana) participated in a congressional visit hosted by the National Park Service at Indiana Dunes National Park (INDU). The USGS interaction included Congressmen Mrvan (IN-1) and Neguse (CO-2) along with several staff members and Paul Labovitz, Superintendent at INDU. LMERS staff gave a brief introduction to their work in terrestrial and aquatic ecology emphasizing work in support of the National Park Service around restoration, eDNA, and nuisance algae and talked briefly about the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. They also highlighted the collocated USGS staff at LMERS working on the USGS Next Generation Water Observing System.
