Monitoring Large Rivers in Kentucky
Water Science Center scientists monitor several rivers in Kentucky as part of the USGS National Water-Quality Program (NWQP). As part of the NWQP program , USGS scientists from across the country are determine the status and trends of loads and concentrations of contaminants, nutrients, and sediment in the Nation’s large rivers.
As part of the USGS National Water-Quality Program, our scientists are monitoring water quality at three sites in Kentucky. The data collected by our scientists is used to develop a comprehensive understanding of how contaminants move from land to the stream and downstream to reservoirs and estuaries.
A recent restructuring of the USGS Water Mission Area created the new National Water Quality Program, and within it a single, integrated National Water Quality Network for Rivers and Streams (NWQN – Rivers and Streams). The NWQN – Rivers and Streams is a combination of several previously separate USGS monitoring networks.
NWQN Sites in Kentucky
Wabash River at New Harmony, IN (site no 03378500): Real-time Data || Water-quality samples
Super Gage--Ohio RIver at Olmsted, KY (site no 0612600): Real-time data || Water-quality samples
