The USGS provides geophysical expertise and support to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Geophysical support activities include:
- Technical and scientific support for projects in the Superfund program and Superfund reform initiatives such as Brownfields as assigned by EPA
- Field assistance and possible studies including geophysical investigations, the performance of hydro-geological tests to determine aquifer properties, modeling efforts on specific sites, or the collection of ground-water, surface water, and soil samples.
- Technical support in the review and professional interpretation of surface water and ground water quality and quantity reports, environmental impact analysis, and development of approaches for environmental assessment
