Recovery of brain and plasma cholinesterase activities in ducklings exposed to organophosphorus pesticides Recovery of brain and plasma cholinesterase activities in ducklings exposed to organophosphorus pesticides
Brain and plasma cholinesterase (ChE) activities were determined for mallard ducklings (Anas platyrhynchos) exposed to dicrotophos and fenthion. Recovery rates of brain ChE did not differ between ducklings administered a single oral dose vs. a 2-week dietary dose of these organophosphates. Exposure to the organophosphates, followed by recovery of brain ChE, did not significantly affect...

Uptake and depuration of petroleum hydrocarbons by crayfish Uptake and depuration of petroleum hydrocarbons by crayfish
No differences were noted in the amount of naphthalene uptake (approximately 125μg) by individual crayfish exposed for 1, 2, or 4 hr at 25°C in open, non-aerated glass jars containing 14C-naphthalene-5% of a water-soluble fraction (WSF) of No. 2 fuel oil. The cephalothorax, containing the hepatopancreas (a food absorption organ), showed greater uptake of naphthalene than the tail flesh...

The structure of western warbler assemblages: Analysis of foraging behavior and habitat selection in Oregon The structure of western warbler assemblages: Analysis of foraging behavior and habitat selection in Oregon
This study examines the foraging behavior and habitat selection of a MacGillivray's (Oporornis tolmiei)-Orange-crowned (Vermivora celata)-Wilson's (Wilsonia pusilla) warbler assemblage that occurred on early-growth clearcuts in western Oregon during breeding. Sites were divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of deciduous trees. Density estimates for each species were...

Sampling in rugged terrain Sampling in rugged terrain
Work in rugged terrain poses some unique problems that should be considered before research is initiated. Besides the obvious physical difficulties of crossing uneven terrain, topography can influence the bird species? composition of a forest and the observer's ability to detect birds and estimate distances. Census results can also be affected by the slower rate of travel on rugged...
