Pre-nesting and nesting behavior of the Swainson's warbler Pre-nesting and nesting behavior of the Swainson's warbler
The Swainson?s Warbler is one of the least known of southern birds. Although fairly common in some parts of its summer range, observations of its breeding biology have been made by very few persons. Dieldrin and DDT: Effects on sparrow hawk eggshells and reproduction Dieldrin and DDT: Effects on sparrow hawk eggshells and reproduction
Patterns of reproductive failure in declining populations of several European and North American raptorial species were duplicated experimentally with captive American sparrow hawks Falco sparverius that were given a diet containing two commonly used organochlorine insecticides. Tissue residues of dieldrin in relation to mortality in birds and mammals Tissue residues of dieldrin in relation to mortality in birds and mammals
An experiment was performed with Coturnix to learn what residue levels were indicative of death from dieldrin poisoning. Birds were fed diets containing 250, 50, 10, and 2 ppm dieldrin for periods up to 158 days. The dieldrin was 95% pure HEOD, which is 1,2,3,4,10,10-hexachloro-6, 7.epoxy. l,4,4a,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydro-l,4-endo,exo-5,8- dimethanonaphthalene. When half of a group was dead...
