10-Minute GPS Monitoring Data for the Cleveland Corral landslide near U.S. Highway 50, El Dorado County, California
This data release documents movement of the toe of Cleveland Corral Landslide, El Dorado County, CA from October 1, 2016, to September 30, 2017, based on GPS data from near real-time monitoring. Raw GPS data from L1-only receivers were recorded in 15 second epochs using data acquisition systems and radio telemetry developed by the USGS Volcano Hazards Program. The overall system, named LORAS (for Landslide Optimized Real-time data Acquisition System), is further described in Reid and others (2021). The system uses u-blox T4 GPS receivers and Trimble Bullet antennas. The moving GPS receiver, located on the toe of the landslide, is approximately 431 m from the base station. This distance enables an ultra-short baseline for differential GPS processing. Static GPS solutions at approximately 10-minute intervals were obtained by post-processing the previous 1-hour of data. Outlier positions were removed through a series of steps. Details of the GPS processing techniques and removal of outlier positions are further described in the Data_Quality_Information section of the FGDC metadata. Time gaps in the data sets indicate insufficient GPS data, problems with data telemetry, and/or poor satellite configuration.
The data release consists of:
(1) .csv file containing 10-minute GPS monitoring data in UTM coordinates
(2) 2024 OPUS solution used to obtain the GPS base-station UTM coordinates
(3) image showing GPS receiver locations relative to major landslide features
