40Ar/39Ar geochronologic data for caldera-forming ignimbrites and pre-Lava Creek Tuff rhyolite eruptions from the Yellowstone Plateau volcanic field

October 5, 2026

40Ar/39Ar geochronologic data presented in this data release are from the Yellowstone Plateau volcanic field, which spans an area that covers parts of Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. These data were collected to determine the age and distribution of caldera-forming ignimbrite deposits associated with the Yellowstone Plateau volcanic field. These data also include the eruptions ages of lava flows, domes, and smaller ignimbrites that erupted before the most recent caldera-forming eruption of the Lava Creek Tuff that is associated with formation of modern-day Yellowstone caldera. Together, these data will help in updating the geologic map at Yellowstone and will help to understand the dynamics of large caldera-forming eruptions at Yellowstone.
