A 3D Hydrodynamic/Salinity/Temperature Model of the San Francisco Bay-Delta, California for Water Years 2011 and 2012 based on the Deltares D-Flow Flexible Mesh Software
This model application data release contains a 3D hydrodynamic model of the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta constructed using the D-Flow Flexible Mesh hydrodynamic model code (D-Flow FM; Kernkamp and others, 2011). This model simulates water currents, surface elevations, salinity, and water temperatures throughout the San Francisco Bay and Delta (SFBD) in response to tidal, hydrological, water-quality, meteorological, and operational forcings. The model has an unstructured grid that consists of 75,019 grid cells in the horizontal and 10 sigma layers in the vertical. The model setup provided in this data release is an update of the previous model version produced as part of the CASCaDE 2 (Computational Assessments of Scenarios of Change for the Delta Ecosystem, http://cascade.wr.usgs.gov) project and published by Martyr-Koller and others (2017) and Vroom and others (2017). This updated model is named the San Francisco Bay-Delta CASCaDE 2 V2 model (SFBD-C2V2) and is the result of a collaboration between the USGS, Deltares (the Netherlands), and the San Francisco Estuary Institute. This data release provides the model configuration and input files needed to run the model over the period August 1, 2010, through September 30, 2012. Output files for this period are also included in this release through a Globus access portal here: SFBD-C2V2 Outputs. See Martyr-Koller and others (2017) and Vroom and others (2017) for model details and interpretation.
