Argon geochronology data for geological materials
November 3, 2026
Ar/Ar geochronology is a versatile method that provides age constraints for a wide range of potassium-bearing rocks and minerals. It can be applied to understand the timing of volcanic eruptions, igneous intrusions, metamorphic or heating events, and alteration events, among other processes. The USGS Denver Argon Geochronology Laboratory produces data for multiple programs, including the Mineral Resources Program and the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, as well as in collaboration with external partners. Data are included here for a range of samples analyzed in the USGS Denver Argon Geochronology Laboratory.
