Bathymetric maps, surface area and capacity of three selected lakes in central Kansas and southeastern Oklahoma, 2024
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, completed a high-resolution multibeam bathymetric survey to compute a new surface area and capacity table for Council Grove Lake in Morris County, Kansas, Marion Reservoir in Marion County, Kansas, and Pine Creek Lake in McCurtain County, Oklahoma. Surface area and capacity tables identify the relation between the elevation of the water-surface, the volume of water which can be impounded at selected water-surface elevations, and the lake surface area. The surface area and capacity of each of the lakes were computed from a triangulated irregular network surface created from a combination of the multibeam echo sounder data collected in 2024 and USGS lidar point cloud data collected in 2016 and 2018.
