Coastal Bathymetry and Backscatter Data Collected in May 2023 From Rockaway Peninsula, New York
Scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS – SPCSMC), conducted a nearshore geophysical survey offshore of the Rockaway Peninsula, New York (NY), during May 2023. Multibeam bathymetry and acoustic backscatter data were collected aboard the research vessel (R/V) Sallenger. The survey was supported by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) Beach and Marsh Monitoring Project. The data will inform research in the USGS Coastal Sediment Availability and Flux (CSAF) Project, which aims to assess sediment availability and exchange in nearshore environments and incorporate shoreface morphology and geology into coastal-change assessments and predictions. For further information regarding data collection and/or processing methods, refer to the associated metadata.
