Data from Ammonia Toxicity exposures with Threatened, Endangered, and At-Risk Freshwater Mussels with a Co-stressor of an Elevated Temperature or Metal Mixture
This dataset provides water-quality measurements and biological response data from 96-hour acute and 7-day chronic laboratory toxicity tests evaluating the effects of ammonia on juvenile freshwater mussels under multiple environmental stressors. Tests were conducted with Green Floater (Lasmigona subviridis), Neosho Mucket (Lampsilis rafinesqueana), and Fatmucket (Lampsilis siliquoidea) in 96-hour acute and 7-day chronic exposures. Mussels were exposed to a range of ammonia concentrations at standard and elevated temperatures and in the presence of a metal mixture (copper, nickel, and zinc). Measured water-quality parameters include total ammonia nitrogen, pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, hardness, alkalinity, major ions, dissolved organic carbon, and metals. Biological endpoints include survival and length gain. These data support evaluation of multi-stressor toxicity and improve understanding of contaminant effects on threatened and endangered freshwater mussels under environmentally relevant conditions.
