Data for the development of methods for continuous monitoring of fluorescence of dissolved organic matter in karst groundwater of the Edwards aquifer, south-central Texas, 2019–24
Widespread urbanization across the Edwards aquifer recharge zone in south-central Texas has prompted the development of new approaches and tools to evaluate current and future groundwater quality. To support sustainable water supply and healthy ecosystems, long-term assessments and the integration of new technologies are essential for understanding spatial and temporal changes in aquifer water quality. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the San Antonio Water System and the City of Austin, collected and analyzed data to develop methods and correction factors for continuous monitoring of fluorescence of dissolved organic matter in karst groundwater. These data and correction factors are specific to the San Antonio and Barton Springs segments of the Edwards aquifer and are intended to improve the accuracy and interpretability of fluorescence of dissolved organic matter sensor data for use in water-quality monitoring and hydrologic research.
