Data for Reaction Kinetics and Catalytic Effects of Sulfides in Early Mature Hydrocarbon Generation using Hydrous Pyrolysis
This data release supports a study investigating the role of sulfur as a catalyst in thermal reaction kinetics, focusing on the effect of pyritic sulfur on early maturation and consequent hydrocarbon generation. Hydrous pyrolysis experiments were conducted on mixtures of gilsonite and pyrite in varying ratios. Untreated and thermally altered residues were analyzed for solid bitumen reflectance, total organic carbon content, programmed temperature pyrolysis, scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to elucidate the catalytic role of sulfur in hydrocarbon formation. Analytical results are included in Table 1 of this data release. In addition, supplementary tables (S1-S4) detail the elemental composition and geochemical analyses of gilsonite and pyrite samples studied.
