Evaluation of benthic barrier layers/tarps for open water control of invasive mussels in 2024 in Loon Lake, Benzie Co., Michigan, USA
March 10, 2026
The study compared the survival of zebra mussels and benthic macroinvertebrates after a 5-day treatment with carbon dioxide infusion under a tarp and a benthic mat. The study was conducted on Loon Lake, Benzie County, Michigan within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The data include water quality (dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature) and water chemistry, zebra mussel mortality and shell lengths, and macroinvertebrate identification and enumeration.
