Fish genetics data and population location information from the Upper Snake River basin, WY (2020-2022)

April 8, 2026

Fish genetics data and the location of populations of Yellowstone cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus virginalis bouvieri; formerly Oncorhynchus clarkii bouvieri). Surveys were collected in tributaries and rivers within the upper Snake River basin, Wyoming. These datasets were created to be used in genetic stock identification to evaluate the effect of tributary populations on population diversity within the mainstem Snake River. The fisheries data represents seasonal sampling of young-of-year Yellowstone cutthroat trout (2021 - 2023) using dipnetting and standard backpack electrofishing methods and sampling adult Yellowstone cutthroat trout from the mainstem Snake River using a combination of angling and boat electrofishing methods. Data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Wyoming and/or affiliated field crews with support from the U.S. Geological Survey, the University of Wyoming, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
