Gaging station coordinates and subareas for the Everglades Depth Estimation Network
The Everglades Depth Estimation Network (EDEN) provides water-level data for scientists, decision-makers, and managers to help monitor and assess Everglades restoration. EDEN is an integrated network of over 300 water-level gages, water-surface models, and ecological applications that provides data for interpolated water-level and water-depth surfaces across the freshwater part of the Greater Everglades at daily and 400-meter and 50-meter resolutions. For some gaging stations, the geographic coordinates in the EDEN database do not match the coordinates supplied by the agencies that operate the gages: South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), the National Park Service (NPS), and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Updated coordinates for the gaging stations were obtained from the operating agencies and compiled for this data release.
Each gaging station used in the EDEN interpolation algorithm is assumed to be representative of water-levels in the surrounding marsh and subarea (the EDEN spatial domain is divided by canals and levees into distinct subareas). The water-level interpolation is performed at each subarea independently (Haider and others, 2020). These subareas assignments were reevaluated using the updated coordinates and reassigned as necessary. This data release contains updated gaging station coordinates as well as updated subarea assignments.
