Geochemistry and organic petrology data of selected Permian, Jurassic, Oligocene, and Miocene coals from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea
Fifty coal samples were obtained from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) through collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guiyang, Guizhou, PRC. The coal samples include twenty-eight early Permian semi-anthracite to meta-anthracite, three Jurassic semi-anthracite to anthracite, five Oligocene subbituminous B to C, thirteen Miocene lignite A to high volatile C bituminous coals, and one Miocene coal sample of anthracite rank enriched in Ge and Ga. Detailed geochemistry was obtained for all 50 coal samples, including: proximate-ultimate, major, minor, and trace element, and rare-earth (REE) analyses. Reconnaissance mineralogy using a field emission SEM, was conducted on samples with compositional values considerably greater than world coal averages. Vitrinite reflectance was determined for all coal samples, and quantitative maceral analysis for all the lower rank, Oligocene- and Miocene-age coals, with the exception of NK-38, on a maceral group basis. Additionally, electron microprobe analysis was conducted on the Ge-rich low-rank Miocene coal sample, NK-41, and is provided in a separate csv data file.
