Geospatial data representing wells open to, and 2013 potentiometric-surface contours of, the confined aquifers of the New Jersey Coastal Plain

A study conducted by USGS in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, measured and evaluated water levels in 10 confined aquifers of the New Jersey Coastal Plain to provide a regional overview of groundwater conditions during the fall of 2013. Water levels were measured in 987 wells in New Jersey, and parts of Pennsylvania and Delaware. Potentiometric-surface maps were prepared for, in ascending order of age, confined Cohansey aquifer of Cape May County, Rio Grande water-bearing zone, Atlantic City 800-foot sand, Piney Point aquifer, Vincentown aquifer, Wenonah-Mount Laurel aquifer, Englishtown aquifer system, and Upper, Middle, and Lower aquifers of the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy (PRM) aquifer system. The geospatial dataset included here, provide point locations of the groundwater wells measured and the derived potentiometric-surface contours representing synoptic groundwater-level conditions within 10 confined aquifers during late 2013. The data are organized into 12 shapefiles based on the aquifer or the state in which the wells were measured. The contents of the shapefiles in this data release are described in detail in the Entity and Attribute section of each shapefile. The shapefile names and descriptions are: AC800FTS2013PS.zip: This dataset contains 10-foot contours of the 2013 Atlantic City 800-ft sand aquifer potentiometric surface in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey. CNSY2013PS.zip: This dataset contains 5-foot contours of the 2013 Cohansey aquifer potentiometric surface in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey. EGLS2013PS.zip: This dataset contains 10-foot contours of the 2013 Englishtown aquifer potentiometric surface in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey. MRPAL2013PS.zip: This dataset contains 10-foot contours of the 2013 Lower Potomac-Raritan-Magothy aquifer potentiometric surface in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey. MRPAM2013PS.zip: This dataset contains 10-foot contours of the 2013 Middle Potomac-Raritan-Magothy aquifer potentiometric surface in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey. MLRW2013PS.zip: This dataset contains 10-foot contours of the 2013 Wenonah-Mount Laurel aquifer potentiometric surface in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey. MRPAU2013PS.zip: This dataset contains 10-foot contours of the 2013 Upper Potomac-Raritan-Magothy aquifer potentiometric surface in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey. PNPN2013PS.zip: This dataset contains 10-foot contours of the 2013 Piney Point aquifer potentiometric surface in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey. RIOG2013PS.zip: This dataset contains 10-foot contours of the 2013 RioGrande aquifer potentiometric surface in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey. VNCN2013PS.zip: This dataset contains 10-foot contours of the 2013 Vincentown aquifer potentiometric surface in the Coastal Plain of New Jersey. DE2013SYNWELLS.zip: This dataset describes water-level and associated data for wells open to various hydrogeologic units of Delaware that were used to create potentiometric-surface contours for selected aquifers that underlie both the Coastal Plain of northern and central Delaware, and southern New Jersey. Water-level measurements were collected during October 2013. NJPA2013SYNWELLS.zip: This dataset contains the well location, construction information, and water-level measurements for 983 wells measured during a groundwater-level synoptic of 10 confined aquifers of the New Jersey coastal plain. Groundwater-level measurements were made from October 2013 to January 2014. Well-location and water-level data are publicly available from the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water Information System (NWIS).
