Global Positioning System Survey Data for 2023, and Terrestrial Laser Scanning Data for 2012 and 2024, Coachella Valley, Riverside County, California
This data release provides geodetic Global Positioning System (GPS) data collected in 2023 and terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) data collected in 2012 and 2024 to support land-surface subsidence assessments in the southern Coachella Valley and Mission Springs subbasin. GPS measurements were acquired during two 2023 campaigns using seven dual‑frequency Trimble NetRS receivers, Trimble Zephyr Geodetic antennas, and fixed‑height tripods. In the southern Coachella Valley, observations were collected at 21 geodetic monuments between February 12-16, 2023, with repeated occupations and extended observation periods at seven network control stations. In the Mission Springs subbasin, GPS measurements were collected at seven monuments between March 20-22, 2023, during three consecutive 6.5‑hour sessions.
TLS point cloud datasets were collected at the Coachella Valley Water District well 5663 compound in Palm Desert during surveys performed on November 14, 2012, and March 27, 2024, using FARO Focus3D S‑120 and X‑330 scanners, respectively. These data were acquired at a manufacturer‑specified accuracy of ±0.5 mm at 25 meters, using averaged laser‑pulse returns. Only points within 25 meters of the scanner origin were retained to maintain positional accuracy.
The GPS and TLS datasets provide high-quality geospatial measurements suitable for analyses of land‑surface elevation changes at local and regional scales.
