This data release provides a point inventory of rainfall-induced landslides in Puerto Rico during 2022 and 2023. Each record includes the date, latitude, longitude, descriptive location, spatial confidence, reporting source, and reference link. Landslides were identified from public reports, municipal sources, and National Weather Service call logs. Verification required dated photographs or videos, confirmation from local experts, or official reports referencing slope failures. Landslide locations were assigned using the most precise spatial information available: events with reported coordinates or clearly identifiable landmarks (e.g., road intersections or named features) were geolocated accordingly, whereas events lacking precise locational detail were constrained to the associated road or highway, then barrio, then municipality based on available descriptive information. The dataset includes 90 landslide events. It is not necessarily a complete record of all landslides that occurred during this time period, and additional undocumented events likely occurred. Landslide events were compiled from multiple sources, including the Puerto Rico Landslide Hazard Mitigation Office Facebook page, National Weather Service emergency call logs, and direct communication with local experts. To be included in the dataset, each record was required to meet at least one verification criterion:
- Dated photographic or video evidence;
- Confirmation by local experts; or
- Reference in National Weather Service reports.
Each event was assigned latitude and longitude coordinates using the most precise locational information available, including reported coordinates or clearly identifiable references such as road intersections or landmarks. When such information was unavailable, event locations were constrained to a representative location within the appropriate barrio or municipality based on available descriptive information. Records were entered into a tabular format with fields for date, latitude, longitude, descriptive location, spatial confidence, reporting source, and reference link.
