Major and Trace Element Glass Compositions for the 2008 Okmok volcano eruption, lava samples from the Lost Jim lava flow (Seward Peninsula, AK), and an unknown ash deposited Candle, AK, in 1907

September 30, 2026

This report provides in-situ major and trace element glass chemistry for three Alaska volcanic samples: (1) ash of unknown provenance deposited on western Alaska in November 1907, collected in Candle, Alaska, in 1908. The sample was discovered in the USGS Alaska Science Center archives as a covered slide prepared by U.S. Geological Survey geologist Edward Kindle. Ash was released from the covered slide and re-mounted and polished for imaging and chemical analysis; (2) glass from a glassy margin of lava material on the Lost Jim lava flow, in the Imuruk Lake volcanic field, on the Seward Peninsula; (3) glass from tephra erupted during the 2008 Okmok volcano eruption.
