Nodal Seismometer Recordings of Aftershocks of the 5 May 2023 M 5.5 Lake Almanor, California Earthquake Sequence
At 4:19 pm local time on 11 May 2023, a M 5.5 earthquake occurred beneath Lake Almanor, California, located in Lassen National Forest about 180 km north-northeast of Sacramento, California. Shortly afterward, the United States Geological Survey deployed 34 DTCC SmartSolo IGU-16HR nodal seismometers ("nodes") in the region surrounding Lake Almanor. Each node recorded 3-component motion continuously at 500 samples per second, using GPS for timing. The nodal array recorded approximately 350 GB of data over a period of 2 months, which are presented in this data release. The combined nodal and permanent network stations will make it possible to significantly increase the number of recorded events in, and the accuracy of, the earthquake catalog for the region during the deployment period of approximately May through July of 2023. The nodal data can also help with understanding the aftershock ground motions and to better evaluate site effects.
