Numerical Simulations of Hurricane Sally at Panama City, Florida: Model Inputs and Outputs
This data release contains model inputs and outputs for simulations of hydrodynamic conditions at Panama City, Florida (FL), for Hurricane Sally in September 2020 with the Deltares® XBeach numerical model using methods described in Roelvink and others (2009). The simulations were performed in collaboration with investigators at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) who deployed acoustic instrumentation to measure water levels and wave conditions offshore and in the nearshore of Panama City, FL. The offshore measurements were used to force the model, and the nearshore measurements were used to evaluate the model results. NRL provided the data to the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS SPCMSC). The model was run from September 12, 2020 at 00:00:00 to September 19, 2020 at 07:00:00 with water level and wave boundary conditions obtained from NRL, as well as from September 13, 2020 at 05:00:00 to September 18, 2020 at 22:00:00 with water level and wave boundary conditions obtained from the Coupled-Ocean-Atmosphere-Wave-Sediment Transport (COAWST) operational model.
