Polar Bear Location and Activity Data at Bowhead Whale Remains on the Southern Beaufort Sea Coast
May 1, 2026
These data contain two tables of summarized activity sensor and location data of 29 polar bears that fed at bowhead whale remains left by subsistence hunters. Remains occurred on Barter and Cross Islands on the northern coast of Alaska. Activity sensor data were collected from 6 bears using tri-axial accelerometers. The data are presented in two tables providing a summary of all locations that occurred at whale remains between July and November along with bear information including sex, age class and body mass and daily estimates of the number of locations at whale remains, time spent active, and estimated hours spent feeding.
