Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) Genetic Data from the Chukchi Sea
April 11, 2025
This data set provides polar bear (Ursus maritimus) microsatellite genotypes derived from 21 loci (CPH9, CXX20, CXX110, CXX173, G1A, G10B, G10C, G1D, G10H, G10J, G10L, G10M, G10P, G10U, G10X, Mu26, Mu50, Mu51, Mu59, MSUT-2, REN145P07). Blood serum and hair samples for microsatellite genetic analysis were collected from polar bears from the Chukchi Sea between 1986 and 2019. Serum samples were collected through physical capture and sampling efforts on spring sea ice off the northwest coast of Alaska, near St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, and surrounding Wrangel Island, Russia. Shed hair samples were collected at polar bear day beds on land in the autumn on the Chuktoka coast and Wrangel Island in Russia.
