Scenarios of predicted rates of change in invasive annual grass cover under baseline conditions, enhanced perennial grass cover, and reduced annual herbaceous cover and mean rates of change in 5 year increments in the sagebrush biome of the western United

November 3, 2026

This dataset is comprised of 5 year average rates of change as well as three scenarios for predicted rate of change in invasive annual grass cover 1) at baseline, 2) under a 10% increased perennial herbaceous cover, and 3) under a 10% decreased annual herbaceous cover. Rates of change were calculated from RAP (Rangeland Analysis Platform) and RCMAP (Rangeland Condition Monitoring, Assessment, and Projection) annual herbaceous fractional cover data. We used a spatial generalized additive modeling approach to estimate the effects of multiple anthropogenic, vegetation, and climatic variables on rates of change in invasive annual grass cover, and the variation in the effects of these variables across space. Land managers can use the mapped results to assess the expected rate of change in invasive annual grasses in their region and leverage key drivers of change to manage invasion.
