Sediment core data from offshore Cascadia during field activities 2020-633-FA and 2021-636-FA

January 7, 2026

This data release contains sediment core data including core imagery, multi-sensor core logger (MSCL) data, and grainsize data. As part of a multi-year project focused on characterizing offshore marine geohazards (tsunamis, earthquakes, and landslides), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program is collaborating with MBARI to conduct research along the Cascadia subduction zone. Sediment cores were collected offshore northern California during USGS field activities 2020-633-FA and 2021-636-FA by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research institute (MBARI) aboard the R/V Western Flyer using the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Doc Ricketts. The cores were analyzed at the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center core laboratory to enable a detailed investigation of southern Cascadia's geologic history and ongoing activity. These data and information are intended for science researchers, students, policy makers, and general public.
