Sediment Data From Vibracores Collected in 2023 From Hewes Point, Northern Chandeleur Islands, Louisiana

September 30, 2026

This data release serves as an archive of sediment grain-size data from vibracores collected in October 2023 at Hewes Point in the northern Chandeleur Islands, Louisiana. The vibracores were collected and processed by Coastal Engineering Consultants, Inc. (CEC), Athena Technologies, Inc., and GeoEngineers, Inc. on behalf of the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) as part of the Chandeleur Island Restoration Project (CPRA project PO-0199).

CEC subsequently provided scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS SPCMSC) access to subsample the cores for grain-size analysis at the SPCMSC sediment laboratory. Following SPCMSC data management and archiving protocols, the samples were assigned a USGS field activity number (FAN) 2023-350-DD, and textural characteristics were analyzed using a Beckman Coulter LS13 320 particle-size analyzer. Grain-size data from these samples are provided to characterize the surface and subsurface sediment texture at Hewes Point, supplementing data from samples collected by SPCMSC at the northern Chandeleur Islands in March 2023 (Bernier and others, 2025).
