Soil properties and cosmic-ray neutron data from the Roaring Fork, Colorado, cosmic ray neutron sensor (CRNS) soil moisture monitoring network
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release contains continuous data from the Roaring Fork, Colorado, cosmic-ray neutron sensor (CRNS) soil moisture monitoring network as well as supplemental soil laboratory analyses and discrete field-based measurements collected in 2023 and 2024 for calibration and validation of CRNS data. The network includes 15 CRNS stations located in the Roaring Fork Basin within the Colorado River headwaters. All raw continuous data is available in the USGS National Water Information Systems database. Continuous CRNS soil moisture stations were installed in the Roaring Fork Basin, subbasin of the Upper Colorado River Basin, and data collection began in June 2023. This data release contains continuous data from June 2023 to September 2024, and discrete data collected during the summer 2023 and 2024 field campaign. Included in this data release are continuous datasets of volumetric soil water content derived from CRNS, supplemental soil laboratory analysis and discrete field-based measurements used in correction and calibration of moderated detectors in the CRNS network. It also provides latitude, longitude and altitudes of the stations in the network.
