Structural measurements in the Grand Canyon region

July 21, 2025

This is a data release of a .csv file that provides measurements of structural features in the Grand Canyon region. These data document structural attitudes, used to describe the orientations of geologic features in three dimensions. Included fields describe the type of geologic feature mentioned, the azimuth and inclination of the measurement (for planar data these correspond to the strike and dip of the feature in right-hand-rule azimuth convention), and the geologic unit from which the measurement was collected. Confidence fields describe the geologist's confidence that the feature was correctly identified, and the measurement precision expressed in degrees of uncertainty. Location information are given in latitude and longitude, as well as a confidence field to convey the location uncertainty. Measurements are attributed individually to the source of the orientation information and the positional information.
This release includes data compiled for a publication in preparation and includes measurements of jointing near the Grand Canyon south rim. These data document the fracture patterns that may influence groundwater flow in the area.
