Terrestrial LiDAR and Fuels Data for the 2025 Garnet Fire in the Sierra National Forest, CA, Collected in 2026
In 2000 and 2008, the University of Maryland established plots within the Sierra National Forest (SNF). Fifty of these plots were resampled between August 30 and September 8, 2026, to assess how the Garnet Fire affected the ecosystem. Of the fifty plots, thirty-seven fell within the fire perimeter and thirteen were unburned. Data were collected within 10 m radius plots and include terrestrial LiDAR scans (TLS), fuel measurements, and traditional forestry metrics. Composite Burn Index (CBI) measurements were also collected for plots within the fire perimeter to assess burn severity at that location. Data collection protocol closely followed IntELiMon guidelines, with additional measurements and LiDAR scans added where warranted. This data release includes plot locations as a shape file (.shp), plot information in comma-separated values (CSV) format, and georeferenced point clouds in .LAZ format.
