Time-Depth Recorder Data from Sea Otters in Western Prince William Sound, Alaska

October 23, 2026

Sea otters within the northern Knight Island complex of western Prince William Sound (WPWS), Alaska, where lingering oil from the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill and delayed ecosystem recovery was well documented, were targeted for study to: (1) describe the extent of intertidal foraging, and (2) estimate rates at which they encountered lingering oil while foraging (Bodkin et al. 2012).
