Understanding mechanisms for Brook Trout persistence in warming streams: what stream temperatures do fish actually experience?

As stream temperatures increase, cold water adapted brook trout populations are projected to decline. However, there are mechanisms brook trout can use to persist in warming streams. Those mechanisms include acclimation, adaptation, and utilizing cold water refugia in streams where thermal heterogeneity is high. Using implanted temperature recording tags, this study examines individual brook trout thermal habitat experience in cold and warm streams throughout the summer.
