U.S. Historical Climatology Network version 2.5 dataset for station Whiteriver 1 SW, Arizona, from 1873 to 2024, used in Analysis of Meteorological and Hydrological Records Support Tribal Members’ Accounts of Changing Climate on the Fort Apache Reservatio

April 14, 2026

This data release contains climatic datasets used in U.S. Geological Survey Scientific-Investigations Report 2026-5140 that may no longer be available from the original source. The climatic datasets include near-surface air temperature and precipitation records from National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) U.S. Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) station Whiteriver 1 SW, Arizona (USH00029271). Specifically, USHCN version 2.5 data used in this study was downloaded on August 21, 2024. Data from USHCN version 2.5 is being adjusted as new data are collected. This creates a time series going back in time that reflects the current status of a station’s configuration (for example, current instrumentation, observation time, and site characteristics). This can cause the data to change slightly depending on when it is obtained, but ideally, the overall climate trend of the adjusted record should be reasonably stable through time. At the time this data release was created the NCEI did not have an archive available that chronicled how USHCN version 2.5 data was updated through time.
