Watershed Data Management (WDM) Database (WBDR24.WDM) for West Branch DuPage River Streamflow Simulation, DuPage County, Illinois, January 1, 2007, through September 30, 2024

June 25, 2026

This data release (DR) is the update of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) - ScienceBase (SB) DR Bera (2025b), with the processed data for the period October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024. This SB DR describes the watershed data management (WDM) database WBDR24.WDM.

The precipitation data are collected from a tipping-bucket rain gage network and the hydrologic data (stage and discharge) are collected at USGS streamflow-gaging stations in and around West Branch DuPage River watershed in DuPage County, Illinois (Bera, 2017). Hourly precipitation and hydrologic data for the period October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024, are processed following the guidelines described in Bera (2017) and appended to WBDR23.WDM (Bera, 2025b) and renamed as WBDR24.WDM.

Meteorological data (wind speed, solar radiation, air temperature, dewpoint temperature, and potential evapotranspiration) from October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024 are copied from ARGN24.WDM (Bera, 2025a) and uploaded to WBDR24.WDM.

The missing periods of precipitation data are filled with the nearby rain gage data as a part of the quality assured and quality controlled (QA/QC) process. The complete list of missing precipitation data periods and the nearby stations used to fill in those missing periods during October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024, is given in Table1.csv. Table1.csv is provided in the comma separated values (CSV) file format. The list of snow affected days of precipitation data and the missing and estimated period of the stage and flow data in the WBDR24.WDM database during the period October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024, are given in the USGS annual Water Data Report at https://waterdata.usgs.gov.

Data in dataset number (DSN) 107 and 801–811 are used in comparisons of precipitation data. DSN 107 contains hourly precipitation data from tipping-bucket rain gages collected at Argonne National Laboratory at Argonne, Illinois. DSN 801-811 contains the processed Next Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD)-Multisensor Precipitation Estimates (MPE) data from 11 NEXRAD–MPE subbasins in the West Branch DuPage River watershed as described in Bera and Ortel (2018). Data in these DSNs are not quality-assured and quality-controlled. These data are downloaded and uploaded daily into a WDM database that is used for the near real-time streamflow simulation system. Data from DSN 107 and 801-811 are copied from this WDM and stored in WBDR24.WDM. DSN 107 and 801-811 are updated with the data through September 30, 2024. Data in DSN 4031 (water-surface elevation from West Branch DuPage River at Fawell Dam) is updated through September 30, 2024, similarly (Bera, 2017). No data is added to any of the data series with the DSN 7020-7023 (Bera, 2025b).

To open the WDM database, WBDR24.WDM, users may use the Sara Timeseries Utility. The attached "SARA_Timeseries_Utility2020_09.zip" file has Sara Timeseries Utility installation file, "SARA_Timeseries_Utility2020_09.exe". Users need to run this installation file to install this utility.
